These are scraps of "kinran" (gold brocade) that are produced when making costumes for Hina dolls in a workshop in Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture. This luxurious, thick fabric woven with gold thread is a traditional Japanese craft that would have otherwise been a part of the expensive Hina dolls.
